The Mannar biosphere in Pudukkottai was completely destroyed during the tsunami in 2004 and fisher community has lost their natural resources and fisher women in the community have lost their jobs and their earnings. In 2006 Read Foundation has adopted Muthukkuda village in Pudukkottai district where most of the natural resources are
damaged. Psycho social support and awareness given to the children and the elders in the community. Three women groups have formed in the village and trained them to prepare value added sea foods and financial support worth of INR 3,00,000/- provided the groups to improve their small scale businesses.

To sustain clean and uninterrupted supply of drinking water in the village READ foundation has constructed two wells and fulfilled the drinking water scarcity in the village and more than 500 tree saplings are planted in the villages supported by Wetland International, Netherlands. Village level farmer schools are set up in five villages in Annavasal block to cater the farmers to minimize the usage of water for agriculture based works and the usage of agriculture inputs.

Peanuts, Sugarcane, Rice and Millets. Training on Cultivation methods and machineries used for ploughing the fields are taught by experts to get more yield. The project was implemented under the Right Sharing World Resources Project USA.
