SUMANGALI-ERADICATION OF EXTREMELY EXPLOITATIVE WORKING CONDITIONS IN SOUTHERN INDIA’S TEXTILE INDUSTRY (SEW) April 2016 December 2019 Reduction Of Worst form of Child Labour -ROWCL April 2013 – March 2016

The two major projects are successfully implemented in Annavasal and Viralimalai blocks in Pudukkottai district supported by CARE T. The Objective of the project goal is prevention of underage recruitment and rehabilitation of young girls and women workers working in textile and Garment industries and its supply chain factories. Pudukkottai district is one of the major source district of women workers for textile industries in Dindigul, Karur and Trichy Regions and western regions of Tamilnadu.

The identified girls are rehabilitated through psycho social support by trained project staffs under the Guidance of NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bengaluru). Life skill trainings, educational support for continue education and other skill trainings are provided to them and placed them in descent job to improve
the socio economic conditions of their families. Village level prevention groups are formed to prevent school dropouts and sensitize the importance of girl children education. Child rights, labour laws and other existing laws protecting the children and women are taught to them. The project beneficiaries and their families are linked with Government welfare assistance schemes worth of INR 1,24,28,000/- (One Crore Twenty four Lakhs and Twenty Eight Thousand) and INR 2,76,000/- received through legal support for compensation for accident at work place for victims and other welfare benefits PF and ESI through intervention with Industries management and district level Government ocials.
